The Australian Experience

The Twelve Apostles, Victoria

The Twelve Apostles, Victoria

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

So, in part, wrote Dorothea Mackellar of Australia in her poem My Country, and it is indeed a land of astonishing contrast. Cosmopolitan cities, glorious beaches, incredible surf, the brutal Outback, aboriginal culture, ancient rainforest and splendour of the world’s largest living thing, The Great Barrier Reef. There are even snow-capped mountains to ski (although Canadians are no strangers to snow). With its unique flora and fauna, and buoyant national spirit, Australia is well worth exploring and Farmaroos are free to do so, working their way or entirely relaxing, for an extended period following their stay in the Mallee.  If you would like to discover real Australian stories of courage, determination and love you might like to read Australian Story.
